State Road (SR) 29 Design – from Keri Road (County Road (CR) 832) to “F” Road
History
In 2007, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began a Project Development and Environment Study (PD&E Study) to evaluate the proposed future widening of 18 miles of SR 29 from SR 82 in Collier County north to Cowboy Way (CR 80A) in unincorporated Hendry County. The study was conducted to accommodate population and employment growth in the project area that requires action to improve the existing transportation network. The PD&E study process involved the development of roadway improvement alternatives, a comparative evaluation of the social and environmental impacts, and the overall costs of each alternative. The PD&E Study proposed a four-lane roadway with two lanes in each direction, including paved shoulders and a median, and divided the project into four segments for design. The PD&E Study was completed in May 2017. The design project segment featured on this website is the portion from Keri Road (CR 832) to “F” Road in unincorporated Hendry County, a distance of approximately 5.27 miles.
Objective
This project will complete the design for the widening of SR 29 from the existing two-lane rural roadway to a new four-lane rural divided roadway. The proposed roadway will require the acquisition of 32 feet of additional right of way from the west side of SR 29 between Keri Road (CR 832) and “G” Road, and the acquisition of 100 feet of additional right of way on the west side of SR 29 between “G” Road and “F” Road.
The proposed roadway is a pavement saving rural section with two newly constructed 12-foot (future southbound) travel lanes, two existing 12-foot (future northbound) travel lanes, a 40-foot grassed median, 8-foot inside shoulders, 10-foot outside shoulders and ditches on both sides of the roadway to convey stormwater to offsite ponds.
